Fundraising Events

Cruse Cumbria is run entirely by volunteers — the help and support we give is free, but the costs of training and running the branch are considerable. We rely totally on fundraising, donations and grants; all money received goes directly to helping people throughout Cumbria.

Memorial Walk 2019

Our 2019 sponsored walk around Buttermere Lake will be held on Sunday 28th April 2019 at 10am. More details and registration will be available nearer the time.

You can view details of the previous Memorial Walks for 2017 and 2018.

Tom completes 10km run

Tom at the finish

Despite not running since the mid 1970s, Tom decided in January 2018 to enter the British London 10k charity run to help raise funds. The 10 kilometres run starts in St James’s Park passing iconic landmarks such as Westminster Bridge and finishing near Westminster Abbey. Tom finishingTom successfully completed the run on 15th July 2018.

Tom says:
“a big thank you to those who supported me with donations and encouragement. In spite of a knee injury which prevented me from training in the last 6 weeks, I completed the run in a minute under the planned 90 and only 10830 runners were quicker! I was kept going throughout the run by my run buddy Andy Langford, Cruse Chief Operating Officer and members of the public shouting things like ‘Go for it Tom Cruse’. As my son pointed out, the real winners are those who benefit from our service to them. As for the knee, it can’t be any worse as I can hardly feel it by comparison with generally stiff legs from the run - which should wear off in a day or two”.

Tom adds that he’s decided to give up running and stick to the more age-appropriate activities of walking and cycling.

Tom raised over £700. Donations are still being accepted at his BT MyDonate page.

Cruse collection at B&Q Penrith

On Saturday 14th April we held a fundraising collection and cake stall event in the B&Q store in Penrith. We raised a total of £380 for Cruse Cumbria funds and would like to thank all who volunteered, baked, bought or supported it in any way whatsoever. It was a great team effort and enjoyed by all!

Our grateful thanks to our B&Q Penrith for hosting the event.
